Subjects for my paintings vary from scenic views of warm Chinese gardens to portraits of my children playing by the seaside on a cold winters day: from Flying Fortresses over Germany to portraits of friends' pets.

I have tried not to restrict myself to any one painting media and in one or two cases, not to limit myself to painting.  I enjoy what I do and hope that you too will enjoy what you see.

"View of the Summer Palace"

I painted this view of the Summer Palace, Beijin in 1998 after a trip to China.  The majority of the painting is watercolour, with gouache highlights on the trunk of the tree.

  "On the Beach"

"On the Beach" is painted in oil colour and depicts two children daring each other to go closer and closer to the water's edge, whilst the sea crashes up the beach on a cold and wet day.  The location was Sherness and the two rascels were my own.

I used a camera to capture the moment and painted from the photograph in 1998.  I am really pleased with the translucent look of the sea.

"Profile in Oil Pastels"

I used oil pastels for this portrait.  The medium was excellent for capturing the different colours that the light gave to the strands of her hair.  By blending the pastels on the paper alowed me to capture the highlights of her skin tone.  I was very pleased with the results and quite impressed with oil pastel painting as an art medium.

"Humber Super Snipe"

I based this picture on a photograph I had taken at a Classic Car Show in Bromley in 1982.

I was very much into the look of contrasting block colours achieved in the classic London Transport screen printed posters of the same era as the Humber.  Rather than using screen printing to capture the image, I used different coloured card and composed the picture from the various shapes the colours took.  I think this is a very visually powerful way to produce images and was very pleased with the result.
